Students’ Achievement and Recognition

Team Nirma Robocon, continuing the legacy, won the National Robocon Championship 2021 9th time in the history of Robocon since 2002. The National event was organized by Doordarshan in association with IIT, Delhi through online mode due to the pandemic. Competing, 63 teams from various renowned Engineering Institutes in India, Team Nirma stood first. The team from Nirma University was the only team in India that completed the theme and that too in just 54 seconds time.

  • The International Robocon, 2021 was hosted by China through online mode on December 12, 2021 wherein the Team Nirma Robocon secured 7th rank out of 21 teams from different countries and also won Nagase Award for excellence. The winner of the international Robocon, 2021 was Indonesia that completed the full game in 40 seconds while Team Nirma completed the full game in 45 seconds.  Team Nirma has secured the highest International Rank amongst all the Indian teams who have represented the country so far in all previous competitions since last 20 years.

 

  • The “Team Stallions” (Nirma SAE Collegiate Club) representing Nirma University has won following awards in ESVC, 2021 (Electric Solar Vehicle Challenge) organized by ISIE India at Chandigarh on December 24-28, 2021 and cash awards of more than Rs.1.50 lakhs.  22 teams from different parts of the country participated in the competition.

Team Arrow participated in SAE India Southern Section Aero Design Challenge, 2021 in the Micro Class category. The competition was organized by SAE India Southern Section on an online platform in which more than 30 teams from prestigious colleges across the nation including NIT, Agartala, Vellore Institute of Technology, BITS, VIT Pune, SRM University, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology competed for the Micro Class Category. The team bagged 1st and 2nd position in Overall Performance Award and Best Design Report Award.

 

  • Team of the students of Institute of Technology, Nirma University participated in Robofest 2.0 competition organized by GUJCOST and won the Proof of Concept stage with award money of Rs 200000/- in Four Legged Robot category on August 24, 2021. The team is selected for the final of the competition.

 

  • The Mechanical Engineering Students’ Association (MESA) hosted Technocalypse, 2021 on 18th -19th September 2021. MESA has been hosting this event since 2011 as corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity under the name of Autocalypse and Robocalypse where students of various schools from Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad were invited to the campus with the main aim of enlightening the school students about the field of automobile and robotics.K D Ambani School from Jamnagar and P V Modi School from Jamnagar won the Best Idea Award in Robocalypse and Autocalypse respectively and were facilitated with the trophy and cash prize of Rs 1500/-.

 

 

 

An industrial visit to Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association (ATIRA), Ahmedabad was arranged for the students of Semester-I, M .Tech (CAD/CAM) on 30th November 2021.

 

 

 

  • Yaman Parmar student of EC department secured First position in event “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, Online Patriotic Solo Song Competition “Deshraag” organized by the NSS Unit and Students Welfare Board, Nirma University, on August 13, 2021.
  • Khush shah of EC department was Country winner and achieved 4th rank at the global level on project ‘REC governance using AI ‘ organized by Intel® AI Global Impact Festival 2021.
  • Chemical Engineering Students’ Association (ChESA) arranged an Alumni Meet On Foundation Day, October 4, 2021 for BTech 3rd, 5th, 7th semester students by Mr. Parin Shah, currently working as R&D head at P.K. Enterprise and is working on anti-corrosion and flame retardant coating systems. He is also working as Principle Consultant for Biodegradable Polymer development at Krish Biotech, located in GIDC Vatva
  • Chemical Engineering Students’ Association (ChESA) arranged a lecture on “Career Opportunities After Engineering” by Mr. Rohan Garg ( IIM-C Alumnus and Founder of ICE GATE Institute) on Dec 18, 2021
  • Jayvirsinh Atodariya, a student of Chemical Engineering Department had participated in the event Mentoring YUVA (organised by the PMO) in August which was of 1 week duration. He is also participating in the Campus Ambassador program (by IMUN) which is still going on.
  • IEI Students’ Chapter, Civil Engineering Department, in collaboration with The Institution of Engineers (India), Gujarat State Centre and Organisation of Civil Engineering Students (OrCES) organized state level technical quiz competition “Civista” for the Civil Engineering students of diploma and degree engineering colleges of the state of Gujarat, India on 14th August 2021 (Saturday). Cash prize of Rs. 1000/-, Rs. 750/- and Rs. 500/- was given to 1st (Mr. Gaurav Bambhania, Parul Institute of Engineering & Technology), 2nd (Karshanbhai Kanjariya, Birla Vishwakarma Mahavidyalaya) and 3rd winner (Panth Shah, Nirma University), respectively.
  • IEI Students’ Chapter – Civil Engineering Department, organized a webinar on “Essentials of Startup and Business Development” on September 18, 2021. It was conducted by three expert speakers who are also an alumni member of civil engineering department, Mr Pranshu Jain, Director, PwC India, Ahmedabad, India, Mr Sanil Bhatia, Founding leader – Pharmaceuticals Business, Udaan.com, Bangalore, India and Mr Abhishek Gupte, Doctoral student, Leonard B. Stern School of Business, New York University, New York, US.
  • The IGBC Student chapter, OrCES and Department of Civil Engineering arranged an online webinar on “Gujarat’s Initiatives in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation” on September 27, 2021.Expert lecture was delivered by Mr. Shwetal Shah, Technical Advisor, Climate Change Department, Government of Gujarat.
  • Knowledge Sharing Session on “MATLAB – Accelerating the pace of Engineering” was organized by IEI Students’ Chapter established at Civil Engineering Department, on October 30, 2021. The session was conducted by Ms. Mauli Bhatt (18BCL008), student of Sem. VII, Civil Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, Nirma University.
  • ICI Students Chapter, Department of Civil Engineering, organized an Expert Webinar Session On Superpozz p500 Benefits for Concreting by Well-known speakers Mr. Bankat Mandhania (Director – Ashtech India Pvt Ltd.) and Mr. Bhushan Deshpande (Vice President -Marketing Ashtech India Pvt Ltd.) on October 19, 2021.
  • Maharsh Shah, a Computer Science Engineering student got incubated at NASSCOM 10000 Startups for NeoFanTasy – a blockchain based fan engagement platform for sports, media and entertainment.
  • Samariya Darsh and Rudransh Vyas, both Computer Science Engineering students reached Top 12 finalists in TVS Credit e.p.i.c. IT challenge Season 3 held in Chennai during November 2021. Twelve thousand students participated in the competition and the team from ITNU made it to the final after successfully clearing 3 rounds.
  • Kush Bhatt Computer Engineering students completed Cloud Engineering track and data science-machine learning track in 30 days of Google Cloud Program 2021 at Google Developer Student Clubs, Nirma University.
  • Prithvi Sharan, Computer Science Engineering student published a book Friends Beyond… (released on 22nd March 2021) and he is nominated for Tck Publishing presented 2022 Reader’s Choice Award.

  • Jyot Makadiya, student of Department of Computer Science and Engineering has won the openEDS 2021 deep learning research challenge track 1 3d eye semantic segmentation and placed 3rd on the leaderboard. The team (NainaNet) members included Jyot Makadiya along with Dr. Usman Tariq from American University of Sharjah and Dr. Abhinav Dhall from IIT Ropar. The contest concluded on in August 8,2021 was hosted on EvalAI and sponsored by facebook-research.

  • Divya Mahur, a student of Department of Computer Science and Engineering was ranked 28th in the domain of design among 4, 55,534 candidates who appeared for Embark ESAT by Upraised, National level.

  • ISA student’s chapter Nirma University organized “Expert Talk on Design Thinking” on the occasion of Foundation Day Celebration on October 4, 2021. A webinar was conducted for the students to enrich their Design Thinking Skills. In this webinar the keynote speaker was Mr Sayantan Mukherjee who is a teacher, mentor and coach in the domain of innovation & entrepreneurship.
  • ISA Students Chapter Nirma University organized the ISA district 14 Felicitation ceremony on October 9, 2021. The event was graced by the presence of Dr Anil Sahasrabudhe, AICTE Chairman, and many esteemed ISA Professionals providing a good opportunity to network.
  • Kathan Shah and Nitish Patel published a paper titled “Backtracking search optimization applied to solve short-term electrical real power generation of hydrothermal plant” in Engineering Optimization, Taylor & Francis in Aug 2021.

Innovative Initiatives

  • As a part of the Community service course, 3rd Semester students of Chemical Engineering Department visited NGOs like Hiramani old age home, Hiramani Sandhya Jeeven Kutir, Adhyani foundation from October-2021 and carried out social activities like donating food and clothes to the needy, guiding elders about various online activities/services, feeding stray animals, donating blanket, essentials to the underprivileged.
  • To celebrate Engineer’s Day on September 15, 2021, the Organization of civil engineering students and Civil Engineering Department, organized an expert lecture on “Fundamental of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Applications” by Dr. Ramesh S. V. Teegavarapu, Professor, Florida Atlantic University, USA.
  • IEI Students Chapter of Civil Engineering Department celebrated Teacher’s Day on September 06, 2021. As a part of Teacher’s Day celebration, a sapling and greeting card was given to all the faculty & staff members of the Civil Engineering Department as a token of gratitude and respect.
  • Department of Civil Engineering, under the Indian Concrete Institute Student Chapter organized an event Quiz-O-Mania-21 – A State Level Quiz on the Occasion of CONCRETE DAY on September 06, 2021. The event was organized for the undergraduate and postgraduate & professionals from civil engineering domain from all over Gujarat in which approximately 550 members participated. Thakkar Dhruv from Civil Engineering Department IT-NU was the top performer, Sagar Shah from CEPT University and Mihir Soni from Dharmsinh Desai University were the 2nd and 3rd runners up.
  • ISA Students Chapter of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering Department Nirma University organized an event for the students of Prakash School for Mentally Retarded on 28th October 2021.
  • A session on Introduction to Latex was delivered at Electrical Engineering Department by Dr. C R Mehta on 20 Sep 2021.
  • A session on Demonstration and hands on experience of laboratory equipment was delivered at Electrical Engineering Department by Dr. S.C. Vora, Dr. A. Nimje, Dr. K. Bhattacharjee, Dr. S.K. Chauhan, Prof. P.N. Kapil, Prof. S.N. Jani, Prof. H. Amrolia, Prof. S.S Shah, Dr. A. Parida, Prof. S. Chatterjee, Dr. Mahesh Patel, and Prof. Vineet Chandran on 24 Sep 2021.
  • Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES) organized a “Book Drive” from August 19 to 21, 2021. Books collected during this drive were donated to Granthmandir- Library” situated at Sathamba village of Aravalli district.
  • As a part of the Community service course, 3rd Semester students and 5th Semester D to D students of CSE carried out societal work at various places. Teaching children, donating food and clothes to the needy, guiding Elders about various online activities/services, feeding stray animals, distribution of clothes carried out at places like Hiramani Sandhyajivan Kutir, Sheel Foundation, Spread Smiles NGO, Kartavya NGO, Manav Jan Jagaran Seva Samiti, Mandli, Sarvodaya Group Trust, Shri Narottambhai Chauhan seva sankul etc.

  • Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES) conducted a poster making competition on Engineer’s day on September 9, 2021 with the theme “Engineer as an Artist”. The competition invited various art expressions from faculties and students of the Computer Science and Engineering department.
  • Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES) conducted teacher’s day celebration on September 9, 2021. Faculty Members and students of the CSE department participated in this online event.
  • Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES) conducted a one day hands on workshop by Dr. Vijay Ukani under “Campus Guru” event series. The workshop titled “Understanding network behind the scene” was specially organized for the students of Tech. CSE Information and Network Security semester I.
  • Association of MCA students (AMS) has successfully organized an event “Code Chasers” on August 20, 2021 through virtual mode.
  • Association of MCA students (AMS) has successfully organized an event “Quizzy-Mind” on October 4, 2021 through online/offline mode on topics like consisting Quant, Logical Reasoning, Core CS and debugging.
  • Computer Society of India (CSI) student branch, Institute of Technology organized an alumni meet on November 14, 2021 for first, second and third year students, where the alumni Purvansh Shah, Ashay Nayak, Nandit Pujara and Priya Roy shared their experiences and the importance of competitive programming .

  • Computer Society of India (CSI) student branch, Institute of Technology organized a series of coding competitions – Vas-CODE- Gama 3 , 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 exclusively for second year students on various dates from August to October.
